Context

Vito is a complete product for organising and playing chess and backgammon in person. The work spans several surfaces: a mobile app to find nearby opponents, join clubs and venues, create quick games, enter tournaments and track scores, ratings and history; a Firebase back end for authentication, data, notifications, payments, rankings and sensitive workflows; a Next.js back office to manage operations; and a public website with product pages, deep links and universal links. The challenge was to build an ambitious, social and operational product foundation combining geolocation, messaging, groups, tournaments, Stripe payments, community content, notifications and AI-assisted board analysis.

Objectives

  • Create a mobile app connecting chess and backgammon players through in-person games, venues, clubs and tournaments.
  • Build a robust architecture for authentication, profiles, matches, scores, ratings, payments, notifications, social content and deep links.
  • Give teams the administration tools they need to monitor activity, moderate, manage content and run the platform.
  • Deploy a public website consistent with the app, presenting the product, supporting acquisition and handling universal redirects.

Our contribution

  • Design and develop the Expo / React Native mobile app with onboarding, profiles, Quick Play, tournaments, venues, clubs, groups, feed, messaging, rankings and notifications.
  • Set up the Firebase back end: Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Storage, security rules, indexes, Stripe payments and sensitive server-side workflows.
  • Create an internal Next.js back office to administer product data, users, venues, events and operations.
  • Develop Vito's public website and the pages needed for universal links, sharing and installation journeys.
  • Integrate advanced features: geolocation, maps, invitations, tournament formats, game history, ratings, community content and AI board analysis.
